This villa is named after the cay in which it is located. Beautiful landscape of the northern coast of the Holguin province, with an area of 42 km², located at the entrance of the Nipe Bay, the biggest in Cuba.

The 65% of its territory is covered with forests, with different vegetable formations; the rest is composed by great prairies where different species of exotic animals and from the Cuban fauna, live freely.

HolguínThis province comprises 13 municipalities and its capital is Holguín, a locality that received the title of city and government tenure in 1752, although its origins date back to the establishment, by Don Francisco García de Holguín, of the San isidoro de Holguín Ranch, presumably in 1545. Considered the country’s third destination, its tourist infrastructure

Sports & natureThe predominant relief is mountainous and it is the site of the largest nickel plus cobalt open cast mine in the world. Pinares de Mayarí, stunning because of its picturesque, it is 995m above sea level, on La Mensura plateau, and is habitat to more than 300 endemic species of flora and more than 90 bird species, 21 of them endemic. There, excursions lead nature lovers to places such as El Guayabo, a 240m waterfall, or La Sabina ecological path. The principal tourist circuit extends from Gibara to Cayo Saetía. Christopher Columbus landed along these coasts, trough Bariay, perpetuating the Commemorative Monument of the Half Century of the Meeting of Two Cultures. Guardalavaca, Esmeralda, Pesquero and Yuraguanal beaches are characterized for theirturquoise and tranquil waters, surrounded by elevations and dense vegetation, a beautiful blue green contrast in wich a hotel network is inserted into the coastal panorama. Also there is a dolphinarium in Bahía de Naranjo, and an international marina in Bahía de Vita, a nautical base in Boca de Samá and three international scuba diving center. Guardalavaca was the genesis of the tourists center, wich is why it has the greatest amount of hotels and complementary installations and a international clinic. Some 6km away are the Chorro de Maíta, an indigenous cemetery that features all the forms of burials of the Caribbean and the Taino indigenous settlement. Also, conceived as a Natural Reserve, at the entrance to the Bay of Nipe, the Cuba's largest, takes up an area of 42km2 with beaches and an open natural park, in which exotic and native animals roam freely. It can be accessed by road, by air and by sea, to its own mooring.

Nightlife info

Holguín has as various cultural institutions, cultural squares, nightclubs and other places to dance and listen to music. For example there is a nightclub dedicated to the famous english band The Beatles. In Holguín every year is celebrated the "Festival de Cine Pobre" in Gibara town, a very important event to young creators.

Culture and history info

The urbanization of the city of Holguín is outlined by a central axis of six parks, thus its pseudonym of City of Parks. The most important symbol is the Loma de la Cruz-with a 458-step stairway- the highest point and look out point par excellence, scenario of the pilgrimages in the traditional Romerías de Mayo celebrations. Holguín also has a beautiful boulevard with some shoppings and cafeterias.
